Good day my good friend.

As you read this, not only will be a pleasantly warm day here in the UK, but I will also be out and walking about. Doing town councillor things with a highways walkabout. I will do my best to do my very own Glum Councillor face. Or Compoface, as I learned it is now called.

Mobility Camp is back, and the number one transport unconference is heading to York on Friday 20th September. Book your tickets now! 🎫

I have co-authored a book on Mobility-as-a-Service, which is a comprehensive guide on this important new transport service. It is available from the Institution of Engineering and Technology and now Amazon. 📕

😀 Good things going on

While the buses still aren’t perfect, in some areas of the country new routes are being added. This Guardian article summarises the work that is being done, mainly focussing on the Superloop services in London and the Bee network in Manchester.

The Guardian also ran with this opinion piece by former Boris Johnson advisor Andrew Gilligan, telling the Conservative Party that LTNs are good actually. And that people like them. Not sure if it will be read in CCHQ, but hey, every ally on the road to sustainable travel is welcome.

The Streets Ahead podcast spoke to the new transport secretary. Who said all of the right things on integrated transport and funding for walking and cycling. Nice words you got there, now back it with action Louise.

One of the biggest rail projects, Rail Baltica, is under construction. Once open, it will provide a high speed rail link from Tallinn in Estonia to Warsaw in Poland and Vilnius in Lithuania. With plans also in place to run night trains as far as Berlin and Vienna.

In Dublin, the City Council has announced that pedestrians will get priority on side road crossings through a very simple thing. Namely, continuous crossings on side roads. 35 side roads have already had the treatment, with more planned.

I’ve never heard of a development being held up by a bus gate. But it appears that is what has happened with the Queensway development in Southend. Luckily, councillors have voted to approve the bus gate.
