Good day my good friend.
I am currently writing this while on train to Lewes on a damp, dreary morning, where I have had 4 hours sleep. So hopefully this will be a good pick-me-up! 🤞
Mobility Camp is back, and the number one transport unconference is heading to York on Friday 20th September. Book your tickets now! 🎫
I have co-authored a book on Mobility-as-a-Service, which is a comprehensive guide on this important new transport service. It is available from the Institution of Engineering and Technology and now Amazon. 📕
😃 Good stuff going on
There are lots of variations on the “Calendar Girls” theme to raise money for charity. So it was only a matter of time before a transport-themed one came around. This was from the ladies who serve refreshments along the Settle to Carlisle Line. Most of the funds will go to buying new refreshment trollies, but some will go to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Service. The funny thing is, the original calendar girls were from Settle.
Ireland seems to be getting on with new railways. After the All Ireland Rail Plan was published, Dublin has received permission to expand its DART network towards Maymouth and a new park and ride with the M3 motorway.
Sometimes, all it takes is for a small change to spark something much bigger. While I will say that the reporter adds some journalistic embellishment to this story of an electric school bus in America, its still an interesting tale into EV anxiety.
In more news about previously cut buses being re-instated, Millom and Haverigg in south Cumbria are about to have theirs reinstated. After a period of collaboration, apparently. Which is a nice thing.
Some good news for the climate, in that Norway sold a grand total of 45 fossil fuel powered cars in July. That’s right, 45. Total. Pure electric vehicles, meanwhile, make up 92% of all new car sales.
🏞 Something closer to home
Some good news from last week for me, in that I got my hands dirty with a rewilding project. The Town Council on which I sit, Flitwick Town Council, is creating a new country park. Last Tuesday I got the chance to help out with creating the park by helping clearing out ragwort, to make away for some other vegetation to grow through. It was very satisfying work as well.
