Good day my good friend.

As I write this, the early part of next week (week commencing 12th August) is forecast to be hot in the UK. I have to say I don’t like hot weather. So by the time this comes around I probably will be in a bad mood, and will read this again to lift my own spirits.

Mobility Camp is back, and the number one transport unconference is heading to York on Friday 20th September. Book your tickets now! 🎫

I have co-authored a book on Mobility-as-a-Service, which is a comprehensive guide on this important new transport service. It is available from the Institution of Engineering and Technology and now Amazon. 📕

😃 Good things going on

It’s easy to read election news, and feel down about sustainable transport. But for those who look hard enough there is always an opportunity. As this paper by Transport & Environment in response to the European Parliament elections shows. You just had to know what your strengths are, and work to them.

The village of Bozeat in Northamptonshire was about to lose its bus service. Not only did a community transport operator step up and take on the route, they also added new destinations to it in response to feedback from villagers. Let’s hope its well used.

Down under, this week sees the start of a trial where all public transport across Queensland will cost 50 cents. Its the first such trial in Australia. It will be interesting to see what the results are, for a company which is desperately short of money.

Further proof that businesses are not a barrier to progress is being demonstrated in Ipswich. Where the CEO of the Business Improvement District has welcomed plans to partially pedestrianise a town centre street.

Train services between Newcastle and Ashington on the Northumberland Line are a step closer to being operational once again. Last week, Northern confirmed that they had done a test run of trains on the line.

Ghost trains have been a regular service on community rail lines across the country. And ahead of halloween, the East Lancashire Railway has confirmed that their “scream train” is making a return this year.
