Good day my good friend.
Anyone else suddenly got an urge to listen to D:Ream? I wouldn’t blame you if you did. Whilst the mandate secured by the new British Government is hardly an overwhelming one, it really cannot be any worse than that of the last 14 years. Maybe some somewhat positive political news is a good way to start this newsletter, written in the hours after the results have been confirmed.
Mobility Camp is back, and the number one transport unconference is heading to York on Friday 20th September. Book your tickets now! 🎫
I have co-authored a book on Mobility-as-a-Service, which is a comprehensive guide on this important new transport service. It is available from the Institution of Engineering and Technology and now Amazon. 📕
😃 Good stuff going on
There are plenty of improvements to pedestrian infrastructure taking place stateside. $15.5 million is being spent in West Colfax, Colorado, after years of community pressure to do so. The Canaveral Port Authority in Florida is upgrading pedestrian crossings to make them safer as traffic to and from the port rises. But not to be out-done, Flagstaff in Arizona has secured a $32.5 million grant to do pedestrian upgrades in its downtown area.
On the UK rail network, Avanti has completed a refurbishment of its Pendolino fleet of trains on the West Coast Mainline. These have been in service for 20 years now, and the upgrades have been to passenger seating areas and the catering. Meanwhile, the Voyager trains it also runs are being replaced by its new Evero trains, which look very nice.
A lot of new Bus Service Improvement Plans have been developed. Particular favourites of mine include Herefordshire, who are focussing on new services that are being funded, Derbyshire who are focussing on Matlock, Burton, and Chesterfield, and Lancashire who are offering £1 bus tickets on Sundays.
